Best time to visit Vietnam
With a surface stretching more than 1,800 km up the eastern shore, and a widespread differences in the altitude, Vietnam is a country of vast climate variations in different regions – North Vietnam, South Vietnam and Central Vietnam. Thus you can travel to Vietnam all year round, there’s always a nice weather in any of these three regions.
South Vietnam: Saigon, Cu Chi Tunnels, Mekong Delta, Phu Quoc Island, Muine
Best time to visit South Vietnam is during December to April. From May to October, expect short downpours – wet season. The Mekong Delta can experience flooding during this period of time which makes traveling very difficult.
Central Vietnam: Dalat, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Danang, Bach Ma, Hue
Best time to visit Central Vietnam is during December to March when it is dry and cool. Central Vietnam is affected by the South West monsoon during May to June and torrential rains during November to early December. Tourist peak periods start from January to February.
North Vietnam: Hanoi, Halong Bay, Cat Ba Island, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Sapa
Best time to visit North Vietnam is during October to March. Winter season starts from November to April with temperature average at a cooling 16 degrees. It can get quite hot from May onwards (Summer season), and a danger of floods due to occasional storms.
As a rule of thumb, do not plan your trip to Vietnam during July to early October, as these are monsoon and typhoon months – unless you are a big fan of paddling in flooded areas!

Hi, Your photos are beautiful and I can’t wait to visit Hanoi. Unfortunately I did not check about season suitability before and I have booked for Hanoi for middle of June, so I guess I can expect it to be VERY HOT! Do you have any suggestions to me for the best average class hotel to stay, and where and how to get around Hanoi and from Hanoi to other places like Halong and Sapa, and other places, if you can recommend. Is it better to travel by tour package, or do you think I can plan to go places on my own? If i have to use ground tour package, can you recommend to me an honest, reliable and decent local tour company that I can contact?
Thanks! GLH
I know this sounds very demanding, but I hope you will reply me.
